Recently, Neo Empire (reknowned and respected tournament body) held a two-day event of fighting games tournaments - one for Tekken 5, the other for Street Fighter 3: Third Strike (although this did expand to Capcom Vs. SNK 2 as well). I wasn't there myself, but freelance magazine writer and fighting don Ryan King attended the Third Strike/CVS2 tournaments, and had this to say about the day...
"Just letting you know the Neo Empire tournament was fantastic - really good fun. Quite a good turnout as well, about 30 people playing 3S and quite a few more there for CvS2 and Hyper SF.
I crashed out in the group stages of 3S - played 6, won 2 and if I won my first match (which was against a Ryu scrub who I should have beaten), I would have qualified for the finals as I beat both the guys contesting the group play-offs. And I was using Twelve for all my matches! I got a lot of respect for using Twelve. Everytime I won with him, there would be a huge cheer go up behind me. Sweet. I had loads of casual games afterwards and started cleaning up with Twelve when the pressure was off. I still need to practice with him but I'm really starting to get a feel for the guy - most people haven't got a clue how to play against him. Also had a few casual games as Denjin Ryu and Alex. I think that trio will be my focus now. But mainly Twelve.
CvS2 was hard. Really hard. Everyone played rushdown at mind boggling speeds and my mid-tier team got ripped to pieces. I played 5, won 1. On the bright side, my ratio 2 Maki was bailing me out of trouble time and time again - I landed a 720 on every person I played. Yesterday showed me that I've learnt Maki to a high standard (which is odd, considering I've had no high level opposition and have been going on second hand advice and combo vids for her). I just need to find two characters to kick off my team!
All in all, it was a great day - stupidly high level of play, great atmosphere, really friendly group of players and awesome 3S moments."
How about that? Sounds like a real shindig. Anyone else compete in any of the NE tournaments over the two days? If so, feel free to post about how you did. It'd be nice to see any photos/vids taken during the two days, too. ;D
